You couldn't have picked a nicer day.
It was definitely worth the drive all the way from the South Bay to experience some of
the best hills Berkeley has to offer.
The Garmin course that you provided was helpful for sure. The only thing that i would point out is that Garmin sometimes gets confused when paths criss-cross. Nevertheless, it was quite useful.
I was on the B ride and tried to stay with the few guys upfront and that helped me not getting
lost. So i never really fully utilized the Garmin, but it was great to have it as an option.
The rest stop was great and kudos for providing us with some of the Clif products.
I only wish you had some T-shirt to purchase, i would really like to commemorate
such a fun ride. Any such plans for the future ?
It's funny, when we reached Vollmer peak. I was hearing this buzzing noise. For a split second i thought that my ears were ringing from the effects of that 28% kicker at the end. Turns out it was noise from that antenna tower :)
The views of Mt Diablo, Farallones islands, San Francisco, Oakland were truly breathtaking.

I plan on being a regular to the niftytenfifty from now on.

Here are some random notes about some of the climbs:
Marin ave. was certainly something that i had to experience. It truly is a staggering
climb. I've done my fair share of climbing in Peninsula and South Bay but nothing really
compares. In fact, today i just decided to do Bolhman-OnOrbit (not sure if you've heard
of it, but it's one ghastly climb, rated as of of the toughest climbs in all of California), and
yes Marin was utterly brutal.
I loved Bill's description of Hiller. "Hiller is a real pisser" :) he was absolutely correct.

P.S. Would you be able to forward me the full resolution picture of the group at the Vollmer Peak ?Bassem Youssefnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2624014870181962155.post-75730894553627082792011-04-04T12:57:50.755-07:002011-04-04T12:57:50.755-07:00Paul and Janet:

You certainly put on a great ride: the route, the support, the views, the (gulp) climbs, the descents(!) and most of all – your pre-arranged “weather parfait.” Believe it or not, I did have some fun trying to keep up with you and “Kevin The Strong” on the climbs. I will commit to more steep hill training for the 2012 edition, but I’ll never be strong enough to keep up with you two. I have to admit though, the best parts of the day were spent following Paul – “Mr. Descender Extraordinaire” – down those wonderful, technical, narrow, potholed, turkey-laden descents. What a rush. Thanks again to you and Janet for putting on a great ride!
- Jim FrinkJim Frinknoreply@blogger.com
